Jan. 4

Cash bingo — The Bishopville (Md.) Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will hold their annual cash bingo on Jan. 4, 2019, at the main station. The cost is $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and early-birds begin at 6 p.m. There will be 20 regular games, two specials and a cash jackpot. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. STEP students to open thrift store — The STEP students of Howard T. Ennis School now have a retail thrift store located at the Early Learning Center/TOTS building, located at 30207 Frankford School Road in Frankford. The Thrifty Eagle store is full of secondhand clothing and household accessories at a reasonable cost, and a grand-opening will be held Jan. 4 at 10 a.m.

Model Railroad Club Open House — The Delmarva Model Railroad Club will hold its 33rd Annual Holiday Open House at 103 E. State Street, Camelot Hall, 2nd floor, Delmar, on Jan. 5-6 and 12-13, 2019, on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. The event features 8,000 square feet of operating train layouts in Z Scale, N Scale N Trak Modules, HO layout, S Gauge, O Gauge Tinplate, O Scale Lionel, and LGB (G gauge). ‘Hannah Gould’ author to discuss book — The South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach on Jan. 8 from 3 to 4 p.m. will host “Creating the Historical Novel: ‘Hannah Gould,’” as author Tim Linehan discusses how he created his new novel, “Hannah Gould,” from research on World War II, which touches on the struggle of Jewish partisans against the Nazi regime. Rehoboth archaeology lecture — On Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. there will be a lecture on Avery’s Rest, a 17th-century archaeological site near Rehoboth Beach, presented by Dan Griffith of Griffith Archaeology and retired director of the Delaware Division of Historical & Cultural Affairs. The lecture will take place at the Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes, on the museum’s second floor (there is no elevator) and is part of a series of lectures exploring the history of the Lewes area from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Admission is free, but due to space restrictions, reservations for the lecture are required and can be made by calling (302) 645-1148 no later than Jan. 11.

Phildelphia Flower Show bus trip — The South Bethany Women’s Club is sponsoring a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show on March 4, 2019. Dine-and-donate for vision program — The Millsboro Lions Club will hold a special fundraiser for its local vision/eye glasses program for low-income children and adults on Jan. 16 at the Blue Water Grill in Millsboro, which will give a portion of funds from all food purchases for lunch and dinner on Jan. 16 to the group’s vision program. Chronic conditions workshop series — Beebe Healthcare and the Delaware Division of Public Health will host a free healthy-living workshop series aimed at providing education and resources for those living with chronic conditions weekly on Tuesdays from Feb. 5 through March 12, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The workshop will be held at American Legion Post 28, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro. The program is considered ideal for those living with anxiety, asthma, blood pressure, COPD, depression, weight issues, emphysema, heart or kidney disease, and other physical and mental conditions. CAMP Rehoboth Chorus in concert — The CAMP Rehoboth Chorus will celebrate its 10th season with an anniversary concert, “Seasons of Love,” on Friday, Feb. 15, and Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. All performances will take place at Epworth United Methodist Church, Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach. The show will include a look back at some of the Chorus’ most popular hits.
